before they disbanded in december 2014,Three bonzos and a piano were:

roger ruskin spear

rodney slater

sam spoons

dave glasson

all fans of the bonzo dog doo-dah band will be delighted to learn that band members roger ruskin spear, rodney slater and sam spoons have teamed up with founder whoopee band chum dave glasson to continue creating fun, music and mayhem in the spirit of the bonzos.

“we are just a small part of the bonzos - a sort of ‘bash street bonzos’!” (said roger, at their first show)

who knows, in the future . . . . ???

sam played with dave in the whoopee band in the 60s and 70s and then formed tatty ollity with roger and dave. roger and dave went on to form the slightly dangerous brothers in the 80s, whilst sam formed bill posters will be band in 1983 with other whoopee band members.

from this you will have gathered that they are not in the first flush of youth, so it’s amazing they know how to operate a computer, never mind a website!

Sam spoons

it is with great sadness we wish to announce that sam spoons died on 27 Sept 2018 after a long battle with the big C.

He was a band mate and friend to all of us over the last 50 years or more and we shall miss him terribly.

but his memory will live on for many years to come, with his eccentric but lovable antics on stage, his unusual props, and his even more unusual ‘drum kit’. known as the world’s fastest spoons player, he enjoyed meeting his fans whenever the chance arose and always had time for a chat.

in the words of rodney slater:

... there is much to celebrate about Sam’s enthusiastic perspective to life and unique approach to music... After 54 years I shall miss him horribly.

if you want to send sam’s family a message of condolence please send it to threebonzosandapiano@me.com and we will forward it on to them

Bonzos Reunion Show on 29 May at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, originally planned by all the Bonzos, including Neil, to celebrate winning back our name. Despite the fact that we have lost Neil (and in 2018 also lost bandmate Sam Spoons), we feel certain that they would wish the celebration to go ahead as planned, when we can give them a proper Bonzo send-off!

There are still a few tickets available on Level 3 unreserved

(see link on ‘DATES’ page).

APOLOGY

We would like to apologise for the absence of updates since early December, due to the total failure of our website host’s publisher. We are now up and running again, thanks in no small part to Russell Glasson who doggedly never gave up his search for the glitch that caused the problem in the first place.
